    Chemical Engineering

    About

Chemical engineering appeals to students that enjoy mathematics and science, particularly chemistry. WVU Tech's ABET-accredited Chemical Engineering program emphasizes design through a sequence of courses and hands-on laboratory experience. The program offers students a comprehensive education in the fundamentals of engineering and science, process design, problem-solving, analysis skills and communication. Students also benefit from our small class size and high degree of faculty assistance.

From molecular interactions to large-scale chemical processing.

    Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics

Study equations of state and predict thermodynamic properties for pure species and mixtures. Explore equilibrium thermodynamics of multiphase systems using activity models. Learn about reaction equilibrium and predict conversion for systems of reactions. It's all covered here.

    Organic Chemistry

Gain a background in the basic principles of organic chemistry, including modern structural concepts and the effect of structure on physical and chemical properties and reactions.

    Design Laboratory

Work on your own or with a team to develop a comprehensive design project. You'll learn about economic evaluation, project management, flowsheet development, equipment selection, process simulation, process operability and control, process safety and environmental protection.

    Career

In our most recent survey of program graduates, we found that 100% of our graduates since 2016 found full-time employment or started an advanced degree after graduating from WVU Tech. They also reported an average starting salary range of $65,000 - $75,000.

Graduates of our program are prepared to enter a variety of process-related jobs. The program combines solid grounding in the sciences with application to the development of engineered products and processes. Preparation in process design and operation provides a strong background for our alumni to be employed in materials manufacturing, energy production and engineering services.

Graduates are also prepared to continue their studies in graduate and professional programs, with several recent graduates pursuing and receiving advanced degrees in engineering and science fields.

With a focus on design and hands-on laboratory experience, the department of chemical engineering produces graduates who find success in fields ranging from biotechnology and environmental affairs to manufacturing and chemical industries.

Students also have the opportunity to be employed in internship or co-op positions while they are in school to obtain valuable work experience.

Our recent graduates have pursued graduate or professional programs at a variety of prestigious institutions and have landed rewarding positions like:

    • Process engineer
    • Production engineer

    • Process control engineer
    • Design engineer
    • Continuous improvement engineer
    • Environmental engineer
    • Corrosion control and prevention engineer
