    About

    WPI's BS in Chemical Engineering program welcomes you into a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere where teamwork, self-designed projects, and creativity are highly valued. Depending on your interests and your future goals, you'll have a flexible curriculum that covers a number of disciplines within engineering, biology, chemistry, biomedicine and physics. You can specialize your focus even further a concentration in Biological, Energy, Environmental, or Materials. As an undergrad, you'll also have the opportunity to conduct research in some of the best laboratory and teaching spaces on campus. You will work closely faculty and graduate students on interdisciplinary teams, using cutting-edge equipment and processes to solve some of the world's most complex problems.
    As a Chemical Engineering undergrad at WPI, you'll gain the knowledgebase and the problem-solving skills you need to make the world a better place. We have thoughtfully developed our curriculum to provide you with not only the best foundation in the principles of chemical engineering, but the flexibility to allow you to explore areas of particular interest. Most of our students gain international, industrial and/or research experience in important and emerging industries including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, energy, materials, environment, and safety. Chemical engineering majors may choose to focus their studies by obtaining one of the following concentrations (PDF): Biological, Energy, Environmental, or Materials. You can also gain your BS in Chemical Engineering AND a complementary MS in Chemical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or Biomedical Engineering in just five years.     As a chemical engineering major, project-based learning will be the cornerstone of your academic growth. From intensive research projects to developmental or design projects, you'll apply both chemical engineering and humanities principles to real-world problems in areas such as microfluidics, biofuels, bioprocessing, materials design, biominiaturization, and drug delivery processes.

    English Program Requirements

    International applicants must submit proof of English language proficiency through one of the following exams:

    • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):  Recommended score of 90 with no sub-score below 20
    • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Recommended score of 7.0 with no band below 6.5
    • Duolingo English Test Recommended score of 115
    • PTE  (Pearson’s Test of English): Recommended score of 61

    WPI Undergraduate Admissions will also consider  Initialview  or  Vericant interviews if submitted. These interviews are optional and serve as a supplement to one of the exams mentioned above, but alone they do not satisfy our English proficiency requirement.

    How to Apply

    Step #1: Submit Application

    First year candidates: Complete your application through the Common Application. Make sure you share who you are and what makes you a fit for WPI, and check over your answers. We encourage you to review our college application timeline checklist to put your best foot forward!

    Transfer candidates: Complete the WPI Transfer Application. Make sure to also review important entrance and application requirements. Additional helpful information can also be found by reviewing frequently asked questions.

    No matter which type of student you are, be sure to use an email address that you check frequently when filling out your application. Keep in mind that many high schools block external emails, so we recommend using your personal email address if you have one. This email will be the main method of contact that WPI uses to reach you throughout the application process.

    Step #2: Request Required Materials

    Request your required high school transcripts and letters of recommendation while completing your Common Application. WPI is a test-blind institution, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of the WPI application. We do require:

    • Official transcripts sent from high school
      • Transfer applicants must also submit college/university transcripts 
    • School counselor letter of recommendation
    • Teacher letter of recommendation
    • Early Decision applicants are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement

    Step #3: Review Application

    Once you submit your application, watch your email for a receipt from WPI. Check your status online to confirm you are not missing any information needed to review your application.
