    Career

The education of chemists usually leads to an occupation in research for the chemical industry or at a university. It is therefore advisable to complement the Bachelors degree with a consecutive Masters degree. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science programme Chemistry also have the option of joining the workforce directly. Although there is no distinct job description so far, there is a tendency towards employment in rather application-oriented areas such as chemical production, product development, or technical field service. During their first semesters, Chemistry students acquire broad fundamental scientific knowledge and are confronted with interdisciplinary problems. Therefore, it may be appropriate to get a Masters degree in a related subject. For this reason, it is important to start gaining practical work experience in relevant organisations early in the degree programme. This way, students can promote themselves as competent professionals in practice and make important professional contacts. The likelihood of finding a good position is definitely heightened if the student is flexible when it comes to commuting or even moving abroad. Good English language skills are particularly important when it comes to the international job market. TU Darmstadt Career Services
