    Pursue a Career in a Health-Related Field through Chemistry

    Explore how and why molecules and atoms interact with energy to make up the universe. You will learn how to create new compounds, materials and agents that could potentially improve health, protect the environment or even conserve energy.

    Through coursework and labs you will be prepared to enroll in graduate studies or pursue a profession in areas including medicine, pharmacology, physical therapy and medical technology with a bachelor's in chemistry from the University at Albany.

    • Development of analytical problem solving skills in the major areas of chemical study.
    • Understanding of the underlying theoretical principles that explain chemical behavior at the atomic, molecular, and macroscopic levels.
    • Development of laboratory skills, including preparative techniques, methods for the disposal and handling of toxic compounds, and usage of modern instrumentation.
    • Preparation for employment in the chemical industry or related areas or advanced study in allied fields, such as medicine, dental science, pharmacy, environmental areas, etc. Not generally appropriate for advanced study in chemistry.

    Entry Requirements

    All applicants must arrange for their official school and/or college transcripts to be sent to us.

    • First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    • Transfer applicants: You must submit official transcripts of all college and/or university work, even if you don't expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.

    Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.

    Transcript Evaluation 

    A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants. 

    Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.

    Other evaluation services can only be used if they require official documents directly from the institution of higher education, not the student, to evaluate coursework. The organization must also be accredited by NACES.
