About

The chemistry major at Utica gives students a solid theoretical and practical foundation in the study of matter on both the macroscopic and atomic levels. Supported by exceptional faculty and advanced instrumentation, chemistry students study composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter with emphasis on atomic and molecular systems. The chemistry department at Utica University is certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the major is designed to meet the needs of students whose principal interest is in chemistry, biochemistry, or medicine.

The chemistry major offers four concentration options:

General
Biochemistry
Environmental
Professional

Chemistry majors have rich opportunities to perform and present original research of their own, to engage in a culture and tradition of inquiry that is simultaneously rigorous and rewarding, and to take part in a variety of collaborations with the faculty.

Entry Requirements

A completed online application and personal statement
After completing the online portion of your application, please send the following documents to [email protected]:
1. Official transcripts (mark sheets) of all secondary and post secondary academic work along with an explanation of the grading system (in English)
2. Tests of English language proficiency, if English is not your first language. Utica University requires one of the following:
  - Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 written, 213 computer-based, 79-80 internet-based;
  - International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0; or
  - Duolingo English Test (DET) score of 100
3. One letter of recommendation
4. Offical examination results for school finishing or leaving examinations
5. Copy of Passport
SAT (I or II) or ACT scores are not required for undergraduate applicants except for the following majors: Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy
Although a decision on your application can be made without financial documents, Utica University cannot issue you immigration documents necessary to obtain your visa until we receive the following completed documents from you:
- International Student Data Sheet
- International Student Certification of Finances form
- A signed letter from a bank official stating that sufficient funds (at least $38,078) exist to cover the total cost of attendance. Any scholarship award can be applied.
