Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Chemistry Department at West Virginia State University.  The Department offers three B.S. Chemistry degree options; ACS Certified, Applied Chemistry, and Pre-Medical/Pre-Pharmacy Science.  The B.S. Chemistry ACS Certified option is approved by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society (ACS).  Depending on the option chosen, students are prepared for graduate studies in chemistry, or immediate employment in industry, or entry into professional schools such as those of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.

 
Our faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service.  Because of our relatively small class sizes, students get to know their professors and their peers fostering a student-centered learning environment.  Our students gain hands-on experience with modern instrumentation, and conduct research under the guidance of faculty mentors.  Research students often present the results of their work at local, regional, and national meetings.  We have a nationally award-winning ACS Student Affiliate Chapter which is very active in promoting science in local schools, and in community service.

All international applicants to West Virginia State University (WVSU) must show proof of English language proficiency. WVSU accepts any 1 of the following 4 measures as proof of English language proficiency:

• Complete one of the following Intensive English Language Program in the U.S.
A. Complete the WVSU’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Program WVSU has temporarily suspended the ESL Program B. Complete an Intensive English Language program at the institution with which WVSU has an agreement
• Complete a Qualifying Academic Program
A. U.S. High School: Official transcript showing successful graduation from accredited U.S. high school with a minimum GPA of 2.00 and a passing grade in English. B. U.S. Degree: Official transcript of U.S. accredited Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree.

• High School Diploma or
• College/University Degree or
• Citizenship from one of the below English- speaking countries (not the United States): *Official transcripts and degrees will need to be provided**Schools of attendance must be recognized by WVSU*

5. Statement of Purpose
6. Financial Affidavit of Support along with bank statements
7. FERPA Form
8. Your Immunization Records of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
9. A clear copy of Passport ID Name Page
10. Transfer-in Verification Form & a copy of your I-20/DS2019 if you are currently in the U.S. with an F-1 or J-1 visa status
