    About

As a student pursuing a degree in chemistry, you won't only learn about chemical processes and materialsyou'll gain hands-on experiences that will help you make exciting discoveries about the world around us. As a chemistry bachelor's student, you'll begin working in labs right away, giving you the chance to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications. You'll also conduct research and projects alongside our expert faculty in state-of-the-art facilities, such as the WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park. You will emerge as a complete chemist who challenges the status quo and is fully prepared to take on real-world problems.
Through our well-rounded curriculum for the degree in chemistry, you will develop a broad base of knowledge and hands-on expertise using scientific tools and techniques. As you pursue your chemistry bachelor's, you'll gain a strong foundation by delving into fundamental and advanced topics in experimental, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. Since chemistry plays a critical role in many other disciplines, you can complement your studies with courses and projects in subjects including physics, mathematics, biology, medicine, engineering, psychology, and more. Explore some of the chemistry BS courses here.
WPI undergraduate students are immersed in project work across all four years of study. Along the way, students not only conduct high-level research, but also master critical thinking, sharpen communication skills, learn to work effectively in teams, and undergo life-changing experiences. As a chemistry major, you'll work in classes, laboratories, and off-campus communities on such wide-ranging projects as recycling of rare earth materials to growing semiconducting crystals for solar energy harvesting.

    How to Apply

    Step #1: Submit Application

First year candidates: Complete your application through the Common Application. Make sure you share who you are and what makes you a fit for WPI, and check over your answers. We encourage you to review our college application timeline checklist to put your best foot forward!

Transfer candidates: Complete the WPI Transfer Application. Make sure to also review important entrance and application requirements. Additional helpful information can also be found by reviewing frequently asked questions.

No matter which type of student you are, be sure to use an email address that you check frequently when filling out your application. Keep in mind that many high schools block external emails, so we recommend using your personal email address if you have one. This email will be the main method of contact that WPI uses to reach you throughout the application process.

    Step #2: Request Required Materials

Request your required high school transcripts and letters of recommendation while completing your Common Application. WPI is a test-blind institution, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of the WPI application. We do require:

    • Official transcripts sent from high school
      • Transfer applicants must also submit college/university transcripts
    • School counselor letter of recommendation
    • Teacher letter of recommendation
    • Early Decision applicants are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement

    Additional Requirements

Some types of applicants will have additional requirements. Please select an option below if you are a homeschool student, international student, or transfer student.

    Step #3: Review Application

Once you submit your application, watch your email for a receipt from WPI. Check your status online to confirm you are not missing any information needed to review your application.
