    A Bachelor's degree program for the true chemist

    Our Chemistry Bachelor of Science program is designed for students interested in a rigorous curriculum where science is most broadly studied with chemistry at the core, preparing you to enter the workforce directly into a chemistry-based occupation or research. Students in the Bachelor's program are also well-equipped to enter graduate school to pursue Master's or Doctoral levels of education in the sciences.

    Most chemists are employed in industry, academia, and the government. Chemists are needed for consulting businesses, research, health care and hospital settings, laboratories, biotechnology, and in all kinds of high-tech areas. Nationally, about half of all bachelor’s degree chemistry majors go on to some type of graduate school in the sciences, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, law, or education.     Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    The core major provides a firm background for entry into the chemistry job market, for advanced study in the discipline, for advanced study in a related discipline, or a foundation for various professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, law or library science.

    In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the major in Chemistry, as well as the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences general education requirements, you'll be required to complete the College's First Year Experience Program or Transfer Student Program.

    English Program Requirements

    The language of instruction at Alfred University is English.

    All undergraduate international applicants are required to submit official scores from either the SAT, the ACT, TOEFL or IELTS examinations. If an international student has taken classes in a US University or college; they must apply as a transfer student, and we will review all English courses on the transcript(s) to show English proficiency.

    Alfred University reserves the right to request undergraduate applicants to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores if their SAT or ACT scores are inconclusive.

    You are considered to be an international student:

    • If you are not a citizen of the United States
    • If you are currently in the United States with a visa
    • If you have applied for permanent residency but have not been approved

    All applicants who are not US citizens or US permanent residents at the time of application are considered international applicants. If you become a US citizen or permanent resident after you’ve applied to Alfred University, you may submit documentation of this change (a copy of your Certificate of Citizenship, Certificate of Naturalization, or Permanent Resident Card) to the Office of Admissions to update your citizenship status. US citizens and permanent residents, no matter where in the world they live or go to school, are not considered international applicants but will be reviewed for admission within the context of their school cohort.
