    Cinematography: Shooting and Lighting for Film & Digital

    About

    This two-day practical cinematography workshop covers lighting and operating for film and digital video

    • professional lighting set ups for film (examples of lighting plans and practical demonstrations)
      making the most of digital film through lighting and camera functions (white balance, shutter speed, manual focus)
    • technical differences between shooting on various formats
    • differences between shooting for documentary & drama
    • shooting in a studio, on location and under available light conditions

    The Workshop will move from technical explanations to looking at specific examples and then on to hands on shooting.

    Day1: Camera
    Operating, the frame, ratios, lens choice (for 35mm and video), camera movement, depth of field, focus pulling, mag loading

    Day2: Lighting
    Lighting for film and video, hard and soft light, colour temperature, exposure, film stocks, gain, filters, use of light meters

    Students will also have the opportunity to develop their camera maintenance skills, including camera set ups, loading magazines, changing lenses, fitting and adjusting video assist and other accessories.

    Duration: 2 days, weekend
    Hours: 10:00 – 17:00

    Will we film anything? 

    No, the course focuses on lighting setups and camera composition. You’ll learn to operate a camera, but you won’t be filming.
