    About

    Civil Engineering at Swansea University has an excellent and far-reaching reputation. The MSc in Civil Engineering provides an advanced and systematic understanding, designed to prepare you as a credible civil engineer. You will be trained in civil engineering analysis and design, particularly in modelling and analysis techniques – fields in which Swansea University experts fundamentally changed modern industrial practice in civil engineering. This course offers you the opportunity to do an additional year for an Industry Placement or project, giving you valuable work experience and the opportunity to improve technical plus interpersonal skills. The second Industry Placement Year course fees are £3600 for International students and £1800 for Home students. We are now able to offer academic performance based bursaries to cover this second year course fee.

    Entry Requirements

    Usually the entry requirements for the MSc Civil Engineering is a first or second class honours degree in Civil Engineering, or a similar relevant engineering or science discipline.

    We welcome applications by prospective students from around the world and look for evidence of previous study that is equivalent to the entry requirements stated above. The Postgraduate Admissions Office are happy to advise you on whether your qualifications are suitable for entry to the course you would like to study.     If English is not your first language you will need an acceptable pass in an approved English Language qualification to make sure you get the full benefit from studying at Swansea. We consider a wide range of qualifications, including the Swansea University English Test, the British Council IELTS test (with a score of at least 6.5 and 5.5 in each component).     All students must demonstrate that they have achieved a certain level of English before starting their programme. You will need to provide a recognised English language test or qualification before you can be accepted to Swansea University

    Specific English requirements are listed on each course page under the 'entry requirements' section. Our English Language requirements are listed as IELTS scores but we accept the wide range of other English language tests shown below.

    Please note that some research scholarship, funded positions, may require a higher English Language test score than standard to be obtained prior to enrolment or held at the point of application.     If your English scores do not exactly meet our requirements, you could still be accepted if you successfully complete an English Language Pre-sessional Programme at Swansea’s English Language Training Services (ELTS) at the required level before starting your academic programme.
