    Convey Effective Messages to Diverse Audiences

    Develop the oral, written and analytical skills needed to improve communication practices central to all industries. You will gain crucial insight into media, organizations, individuals and society as you study to become a communication professional. 

    Through coursework and internships you will be prepared to pursue a career in areas including public relations, marketing and media with the bachelor's in communication program at the University at Albany.

    • Students will be able to describe the communication process; that is, identify and define components of fundamental approaches to interpersonal, public, and organizational communication that bear on how individuals make themselves understood and enable them to achieve their purposes through interaction that takes place in various contexts.
    • Students will discern a multiplicity of intellectual perspectives constituting communication theory and research in various contexts and their relationship to communication practices.
    • Students will be able to analyze communication problems effectively, and propose potentially effective responses in interpersonal/intercultural, organizational, political, and/or health contexts.
    • Students will be able to describe principles of effective audience-based strategies for public speaking; critique speeches on the basis of audience, argument and presentation; develop and perform effective persuasive, informative, and ceremonial speeches.

    Entry Requirements

    All applicants must arrange for their official school and/or college transcripts to be sent to us.

    • First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    • Transfer applicants: You must submit official transcripts of all college and/or university work, even if you don't expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

    If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.

    Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.

    Transcript Evaluation 

    A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants. 

    Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.

    Other evaluation services can only be used if they require official documents directly from the institution of higher education, not the student, to evaluate coursework. The organization must also be accredited by NACES.
