Overview The focus of the Community Health Education degree at Fairmont State University is to prepare health education specialists who can assess needs, plan and implement programs, conduct research, communicate health information, and serve as a health education resource person.Learning outcomesCourses are designed with hands-on learning in mind. Community Health Education is also offered as a 21-credit minor.Health education specialists work to promote positive health behaviors and prevent disease by educating communities and individuals. Graduates of Community Health Education programs typically seek employment or apply to graduate school. Employment opportunities are available in non-profit, government, and business sectors. Many employers prefer candidates who have attained the Certified Health Education Specialist or Master Certified Health Education Specialist credential from the National Commission on Health Education Credentialing. In cases where high school graduation is expected after the application deadline for admission, acceptance at Fairmont State would be given to the prospective student with the understanding that the student successfully complete the necessary academic requirements and submit proof of graduation. Photo copies will not be accepted.
