    Community Psychology

    About

    While the field draws heavily from psychology, it also draws from theory and practice in sociology, community development, ecology, public health, anthropology, cultural and performance studies, public policy, social work, and social justice movements.

  • Develop an understanding of human development and well-being within an ecological framework.
  • Draw upon the strengths and perspectives of diverse stakeholders in defining and solving social problems.
  • Utilize interdisciplinary methods and approaches to community action and research.
  • Understand, evaluate and participate in the development of effective intervention, prevention, and health promotion strategies and programs for individuals, small groups, and communities.
  • Integrate knowledge across disciplines and contexts in ways that respect different approaches to understanding human development and well-being.
  • Work collaboratively across diverse groups and organizations through community-based experience and internships.

    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
    • Submission of unofficial high school transcript from most recent high school attended
    • Proof of English language proficiency is required for all students who did not complete more than half (at least 7 years) of their primary and secondary education in school(s) a) where English was not the language of instruction and b) in countries other than the United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.Learn more on our English language proficiency page.

    English Program Requirements

    Proficiency in English is required for graduate study at the University of Washington as outlined in Memo 8. Therefore, every applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency. Proficiency for this program can be demonstrated in one of the followingways:

  • A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States where English is the medium of instruction.
  • A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from an institution in Australia, the Bahamas, Canada, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, or the United Kingdom and where English is the medium of instruction. While enrolled at the degree-granting school, the student must be in residence on campus.
  • Official documentation from the applicant’s undergraduate degree-granting institution (if the institution is in a country other than those listed in #2 above) verifying thatallinstruction is in English. A minimum of three years of enrollment at the undergraduate institution is required. Documentation must be presented to the Graduate School; credential service reports are not acceptable. Acceptable documentation must be one of the following:
    • Official or attested letter from the undergraduate college, University Registrar, or Controller of Examinations office.
    • Official transcripts, attested mark sheets, or degree statements are also accepted if English is stated as the medium of instruction.

    • International F-1 Students: Submit the Application for International Transfer Admission to the University of Washington Bothell online.

    Step 3: Complete supplemental application requirements

    A. Complete a writing assessment option

    • Submit your Personal Statement and your grade on the Advanced Composition Course Pre-requisite

    • Submit official SAT W or ACT score to UW Bothell Admissions

    • Register for the Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) prior to the posted application deadline

    B. Submittranscripts:

    Current UW Bothell (Pre-Major)Students:Provide one unofficial transcript from each college or university you have attended with your application. This will also include your UW transcripts.

    C. Submit personal statement

    Prepare a personal statement (no more than two pages double-spaced) that addresses each of the following:

    • Your preparation and motivation to pursue upper-division studies in business.

    • Your ability to contribute to the educational experience of other students at UW Bothell campus or the ELC in Bellevue

    • Other factors that you would like the Admissions Committee to consider (i.e., academic or personal challenges).

    D. Submit resume

    Prepare a resume (maximum one page in length) that includes education, employment, volunteer/extracurricular activities, and interests.

    E. Additional information

    Complete applications received by the application deadline will be assured of a review; complete applications received after the application deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis. Admissions will remain open until the program is full.

    Your admission is contingent upon receipt of transcripts verifying successful completion of all prerequisite courses prior to the quarter you will begin classes at the University.
