This is a doctoral research program for students pursuing a Ph.D. in a biological discipline, broadly defined. It is intended for students who have completed undergraduate education. The Complex Biological Systems (CBS) Program will emphasize use-oriented, problem-focused education that comprehensively addresses the scales of societal problems and the connections between these scales. The program will build expertise and foster comprehensive understanding of problem complexity while building collaborative skills. Doctoral candidates will develop and defend an in-depth dissertation based on original research performed in the biological sciences. Program graduates will have the training and terminal degree necessary for post-doctoral research in academia and industry, and expertise suitable for positions such as teaching, project management, consulting, and scientific/technical writing.

Entry Requirements

*There are no waivers available. - College Transcript and Copy of Original Degree – If you have completed more than one degree, all academic credentials should be submitted. Additionally, if your document is not translated to English a certified English translation is required.
- Standardized English language test score – a TOEFL minimum score of 70, IELTS minimum score of 6.0, PTE minimum score of 50 or Duolingo test minimum score of 120 for traditional admissions.

- Recommendations – a minimum of 2 are required for Master’s programs, and a minimum of 3 are required for Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs.
- Statement of professional objectives – Provide reasons for pursuing the program applied. Describe how you will use this program to reach your career goes, and educational goals beyond the master’s level if applicable. Students should also identify personal qualities that they want the committee to see in them, such as leadership, concerns for others, talent, etc.
- You can upload the required documents to your application portal once you submit your application. Additional items may be required depending on the program applied.
