    About

Computer scientists use algorithms to develop the software that is the basis of every computer's problem-solving abilities. They play a role in every professional field, working as developers, designers, researchers, and managers. Computer scientists combine technical expertise with creativity to shape the future.

Oregon State offers an applied curriculum and a systems curriculum. In the applied option, students develop a customized academic pathway that allows them to match their studies with their interests and career plans. The systems option is geared to students who want to develop systems software or plan to pursue an advanced computer science degree.

Whether or not you focus your studies in areas where we have a strong concentration of faculty and research expertise, such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, because the demand for Oregon State computer scientists is so strong, the path you take after graduation will be yours to choose.
