    Computing has transformed life. Advances in computing have enabled breakthroughs in genetics, protein modeling, medicine, weather simulations and all scientific fields. Video games and movie graphics are increasingly realistic. Children acquire various skills using fun, educational software. The Internet has revolutionized commerce, transportation and communication. Policies and laws have been reimagined to account for the new world created in cyberspace.
    The study of computer science at W&L provides a foundation in fundamental, invariant principles and practices of the discipline. These include problem analysis, algorithm design and the selection of appropriate theoretical models, software systems and hardware systems for implementing computational solutions to problems, as well as the historical, social, legal and ethical context of computing.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    • Submit official results of the TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or Cambridge English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency exams. W&L does not accept self-reported scores on these exams.
    • Submit self-reported or official results from the writing section of the SAT or ACT.
    • Complete an interview with InitialView, Vericant, or Duolingo.
    • A completed Common Application or QuestBridge Application
      • Some applicants may qualify to have their application fee waived. To find out if you qualify for a fee waiver, complete this form.
    • A signed Early Decision Agreement (If you decide to apply Early Decision)
    • An official copy of your high school transcript
    • Two teacher recommendations
    • One recommendation letter from your guidance or college counselor
    • The Common Application Secondary School Report form, completed by your guidance or college counselor
    • Self-reported or official scores from the SAT or ACT (optional for the Classes of 2025 and 2026)
    • Apply for scholarships and/or financial aid (if needed)
