The comprehensive curriculum for the computer science bachelor's degree program combines computer science major courses in diverse fields across campus, hands-on team projects, and requirements in the humanities and arts so you obtain the technical and personal skills you need to succeed in today's global economy. With innovative classes such as Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing, Data Mining, Software Engineering, Database Systems, and Artificial Intelligence for Interactive Media and Games, you have the flexibility to focus on cybersecurity, robotics, computational science, software design, and more.

Hands-on, project-based learning is the cornerstone of the WPI experience, and a big reason why you'll stand out to employers. As a computer science major, you might support faculty research or improve computer applications used on campus, or you might conduct projects off-campus in the U.S., including Silicon Valley, or abroad in areas such as game development or augmented reality applications.

Requirements

English Program Requirements

International applicants must submit proof of English language proficiency through one of the following exams:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Recommended score of 90 with no sub-score below 20
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Recommended score of 7.0 with no band below 6.5
Duolingo English Test Recommended score of 115
PTE (Pearson’s Test of English): Recommended score of 61

WPI Undergraduate Admissions will also consider Initialview or Vericant interviews if submitted. These interviews are optional and serve as a supplement to one of the exams mentioned above, but alone they do not satisfy our English proficiency requirement.

How to Apply

Step #1: Submit Application

First year candidates: Complete your application through the Common Application. Make sure you share who you are and what makes you a fit for WPI, and check over your answers. We encourage you to review our college application timeline checklist to put your best foot forward!

Transfer candidates: Complete the WPI Transfer Application. Make sure to also review important entrance and application requirements. Additional helpful information can also be found by reviewing frequently asked questions.

No matter which type of student you are, be sure to use an email address that you check frequently when filling out your application. Keep in mind that many high schools block external emails, so we recommend using your personal email address if you have one. This email will be the main method of contact that WPI uses to reach you throughout the application process.

Step #2: Request Required Materials

Request your required high school transcripts and letters of recommendation while completing your Common Application. WPI is a test-blind institution, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of the WPI application. We do require:

Official transcripts sent from high school
- Transfer applicants must also submit college/university transcripts
School counselor letter of recommendation
Teacher letter of recommendation
Early Decision applicants are required to submit the Early Decision Agreement
