    Our Master's Degree Programs

    The Department of Computer Science at Brandeis offers a number of master's degrees:

    • The 9-course, three-semester Master of Science in Computer Science (MS3) consists of graduate-level coursework for students who have completed a bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field.
    • The 12-course, four semester Master of Science in Computer Science for Non-Majors (MS4) includes introductory computer science coursework and graduate level coursework. This program is ideal for students who have little or no background in computer science. Student backgrounds will be evaluated by faculty committee for the appropriate track.
    • The Master of Science in Computational Linguistics is designed for students with a linguistics, language, computer science, mathematics, or science background, including students without prior study of computer science and/or linguistics.

    Jobs and Internships

    Our graduates have successfully launched into exciting careers at top companies around the country in fields ranging from Internet backbone to computer gaming, and while the most frequent job title is "Software Developer," they work on a wide breadth of challenging problems. Companies include:

    Akamai, Amazon, Blizzard Entertainment, Bloomberg, Commvault, EMC, Facebook, Google, Kaon Interactive, Tripadvisor, Vertica

    The Department of Computer Science provides lots of networking opportunities including the annual CS Job Fair, smaller industry receptions targeting specific industries, and recruiting visits from Google, Yelp and others. Our faculty industry liaison provides individual consultations and resume reviews.

    Career Services

    As a master's student, you have somewhat limited time at Brandeis so you should be proactive and begin preparing for your job or internship search as soon as possible. You also need to be especially organized in order to take advantage of all the job search resources available to you. The graduate school's Center for Career and Professional Development offers an array of resources, including CV/resume help, job search and networking.

    • Send official transcript(s) from every college or university attended. You must have a four-year bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or equivalent.

    • Official e-transcripts may be submitted directly from an institution to [email protected]. Submit transcript(s) via mail in sealed, signed envelopes mailed directly from the original institution to the Brandeis Division of Graduate Professional Studies. To avoid any delays, please include our mail stop, MS 084, in the address.

    Include an updated resume that outlines your current and recent work history.

    Statement of goals

    Your statement of goals should:

    • Contain at least 500 words.

    • Address why you are pursuing a graduate degree.

    • Describe how the program outcomes will help you achieve your professional and personal goals.

    Letter(s) of recommendation

    • We require one letter of recommendation from a current OR former supervisor, manager or employer who can assess your workplace performance.

    • Add their information to the online application and they'll receive a link to upload the letter.

    • You can submit multiple recommendation letters.

    How to Apply

    Submitted an application? Your application will be processed immediately. Our admissions committee typically makes admissions decisions within one week of receiving a completed application. Decision letters are emailed and mailed to all applicants. 

    If you have already submitted an application, you may log in to the GPS Application Management Center to view the progress of your application. You may also contact an admissions advisor or the GPS admissions office. Please note that the admissions committee does not begin reviewing your application until all required documents are received.
