    Conflict, Memory and Peace

    About

    This interdisciplinary degree programme involves the following subjects: political science, sociology, law, history, philosophy, theology, romance studies and social work. Module 1: Introduction to Conflict, Memory and Peace: Skills are developed regarding (historical) definitions and theories of peace, conflict and collective "memory". Module 2: Conflict Theories Students will be able to analyse real (global) conflicts with regard to the emergence, escalation and respectively de-escalation and termination by taking into account complex social-science theories. Module 3: Historical Peace and Conflict Studies After attending this module, the students will have developed historiographical awareness for questions and issues concerning the afterlife of conflicts. Module 4: International Law Students gain knowledge of basics of international law with a special focus on transitional justice. Module 5: Memory-Forgiveness-Reconciliation Theological and philosophical approaches to remembrance forgiveness and reconciliation Module 6: Security Studies Consolidated, problem-driven skills of both traditional "hard" and new(er) "soft" security challenges and developments Module 7: Conflict Resolution and Transformation Enhanced and advanced ability to classify different conflict regulation mechanisms in view of increasing complexity of conflicts Module 8: Historical Peace and Conflict Studies II This course explores causes of war in the 19th and 20th century as well as problems such as peace settlement, peacekeeping, and the history of crisis management. Module 9: Research Conflict, Memory and Peace Students acquire competence in relevant guided research work. Module 10: Qualitative Methods of Conflict Analysis Advanced knowledge in qualitative research methods regarding conflict analysis Module 11: Conflict and Peace in Colombia The course analyses the origins, developments and escalation points of the different facets of the Colombian conflict. Module 12: Colloquium Students will be prepared for their actual field work and writing their theses. Module 13: Internship (more information below) Module 14: Elective Modules e.g., Advanced Sociology of Media and Culture Decision Making in the Use of Force Development Problems and Global Learning Module 15: Master's Thesis The Master's thesis shall serve the purpose of demonstrating in-depth learning outcomes in scientific work.

    Entry Requirements

    Admission requirements are a first degree in the field of humanities or social sciences with an overall grade of at least "good" or law degree with an overall grade of at least "satisfactory".
