Criminology and Criminal Justice (Top-Up)

The BA (Hons) in Criminology and Criminal Justice is a top up year which students will study after successfully progressing from the Foundation Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. At this stage in your academic studies you should have explicit understanding of the etymology of criminology and be able to with critical analysis, evaluation and reflection demonstrate your understanding of a broad based programme of study which explores the phenomenon of both social and personal aspects of crime. It will provide you with the most contentious issues in contemporary society. Criminology in its own right is a wide spread degree which will emphasis on a broad range of issues relating to crime. Most people associate Criminology with the causes of crime but it goes well beyond this; it is important to consider that laws change over time and what may constitute as illegal in one society may be legal in another. The degree allows you to explore the social and political impact crime has on individuals, groups and society as a whole. You will graduate with a BA (hons) in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a range of skills and knowledge which will enhance your employability skills such as the police, probation, prison, social work, youth work, Crown Prosecution Service and the Criminal Justice System. You will gain transferable skills in research, time management and written communication.
