    About

For more than two decades, The University of Tulsa has been at the forefront of cybersecurity research and education. TU has been a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense Education since 2000 – one of the first 14 institutions awarded this distinction. TU also is recognized by the federal government as a CAE in IA Research and Cyber Operations. TU alumni are employed in leading roles in the private and public sectors as well as academia.

Cybersecurity skills are in high demand, yet supply is lacking. The industry estimates that more than one million cybersecurity jobs worldwide remain unfilled, with more than 200,000 of those in the United States. TU alumni are well equipped to meet the demand and serve in intellectually stimulating and personally rewarding roles that strengthen national and global security. Graduates have experience in the theory, concepts and techniques of information assurance and network defense in real-world settings.

The School of Cyber Studies offers an undergraduate Minor in Cyber Security, a B.S. in Cyber Security, M.S. in Cyber Security, and a Ph.D. in Cyber Studies.

Cyber Security Ranked #23 nationally by U.S. News Best Undergraduate Cybersecurity Programs, TU offers an undergraduate minor, a B.S. and M.S. in Cyber Security, as well as a Ph.D in Cyber Studies. Graduates are equipped to meet employer demands and serve in intellectually stimulating and personally rewarding roles that strengthen national and global security, filling one of the more than one million open cyber security jobs. Students gain experience in the theory, concepts and techniques of information assurance and network defense in real-world settings. Courses are designed to be hands-on and project-based, emphasizing experiential learning and partnerships with employers. In addition to computer science, the program draws on faculty expertise from engineering, business, social sciences and the humanities to cultivate broader perspectives that match how cyber pervades modern life. As such, the curriculum emphasizes both technical and non-technical skills required for today's cyber workforce. TU's cyber program is certified by the NSA and US Department of Homeland Security as a Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education, Research, and Cyber Operations. We plan to seek accreditation for the B.S. in Cyber Security from ABET, the accreditor who certifies TU's BS degrees in engineering and computer science. The B.S. and M.S. in Cyber Security degrees also align with NIST's National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), which articulates cyber workforce competencies.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

Let’s start with your grade point average (GPA). Yale admissions officers will calculate based on your high school transcript, which you’ll submit with your overall application.

Last year, the reported average high school GPA of an admitted student at Yale was a 4.19 out of 4.0, what we call a “weighted” GPA. However, unweighted GPAs are not very useful, because high schools weight GPAs differently. In truth, you need close to a 4.0 unweighted GPA to get into Yale. That means nearly straight As in every class.

Yale, like the rest of the Ivy League and most other colleges, requires either the SAT or ACT for admission. They have no preference between them, so choose the test that’s a better fit for you, thoroughly prepare for it, and plan to take it multiple times.

The average SAT and ACT composite scores for admitted students at Yale varies, as you can see in the table below. However, keep in mind that unless you fall into certain privileged categories (athletes, legacies, donors, etc.), your SAT/ACT score should be closer to the 75th percentile than the 25th percentile to ensure you’re maximizing your chances of admission.

    English Program Requirements

TOEFL or IELTS is required of most applicants whose native language is not English.

If you have received (or will receive) an undergraduate degree from a college or university where English is the primary language of instruction, and if you have studied in residence at that institution for at least three years, you are exempt from the English Language Test requirement and are not required to submit the TOEFL or IELTS

No exemptions are made on the basis of an advanced degree (e.g. M.A./M.S. or Ph.D.) from any institution.

When you complete your application, you will answer questions about your native language and the primary language of instruction at your baccalaureate institution. If either was English, you will not be required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores when you submit your application. No separate documentation is necessary.
