About

Overview The Disability Studies program from University of Winnipeg will challenge you to think about “disability” and “ability” in a new way. Using a social model lens, the problem becomes a lack of ramps rather than the fact that someone uses a wheelchair. In this program students will begin from an examination and critique of the bio-medical model of disability. Topics to be considered include human rights, ethics and accountability, adaptive physical activity, sport and recreation, social movements, normalcy, eugenics, genetic engineering, family, sexuality, employment, socialization and development, aging, education, adaptive and universal design, and gender issues. Sample Careers Opportunities are available in a wide variety of areas, such as teaching, research, policy analysis in various levels of government, the non-profit sector, the health care sector, the tourism sector, etc.

The Disability Studies program from University of Winnipeg is an interdisciplinary program focused on the critical analysis of disability in society which includes the study of disability as a social, scientific, cultural, historical, and political construction.

Secondary School Grade: C (with no mark below a D)International Baccalaureate – An IB diploma with 3 HL courses and 3 SL courses. For transfer credit or advanced standing, no grade below 4 accepted.Minimum points required: 24Minimum total score of 24 points Students will still need to meet the English Language Requirements of the university. The admissions office has expanded the requirements to include the Duolingo English Test as an approved form of meeting English proficiency for September 2020 and January 2021. The required score will be a minimum of 115 on the test.
