MS and PhD Degrees in field of Bioengineering
MS Degree Program
MS degree is a thesis master’s degree. For general university requirements, please see Thesis Master’s Degrees. regulations, and procedures for all graduate programs, please see All Graduate Students. Students pursuing MS degree in field of Bioengineering must complete:
- A minimum of 30 credit hours to satisfy degree requirements.
- A minimum of 58 credit hours from foundation, supporting, and advanced coursework. MS students must earn additional credit hours they need for graduation by registering for research course BIOE 500 during terms in which they are engaged in research.
- A minimum program GPA of 3.00.
In addition, students must:
- Show evidence on their undergraduate transcript of completion of a class in systems physiology, cell (or physical) biology, and statistics. (If courses were not taken for an undergraduate degree, they must be completed at beginning of MS degree program.)
- Fulfill a teaching requirement.
- Submit an original research thesis.
- Defend thesis in a public oral examination.
The English Language Proficiency Requirement may be waived for an international student who received a degree from an institution in which English is the official language of communication. Contact the admitting program for more information.
The following language proficiency tests are accepted by Rice graduate programs and will be used to assess English language proficiency. Please note the below scores are the minimum requirement, though some program requirements will be higher.
- The TOEFL IBT Home. A minimum score of 90 is required
- IELTS Indicator. A minimum score of 7 is required.
- Duolingo. A minimum score of 115 is required.
