    About

    The aim of the doctoral programme is to support doctoral candidates of the Faculty of Natural Sciences on their way to obtaining a doctorate by offering a structured framework for completing a doctoral thesis. The programme offers doctoral candidates opportunities to increase their subject-specific knowledge and acquire new skills and methods to keep up-to-date with current research in the natural sciences and the corresponding scientific methodologies. Within the scope of the doctoral degree programme, students are involved in the topic-specific doctorate and research specifics. The following research training groups have been established at the Faculty of Natural Sciences: Natural Sciences Biodiversity Change over Time (in cooperation with the Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart)

    Entry Requirements

    The requirement for admission to the doctoral programme is acceptance as a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Candidates have to find a supervisor on their own. The requirement for acceptance as a doctoral candidate is a degree in natural sciences or engineering in one of the following courses of study with a total average grade of at least 2.5 (good according to the German grading system; foreign grades are converted to the German grading system by the Office of International Affairs of the University of Hohenheim): a) Master's programme at a university b) a degree programme with a standard period of study of at least four years at a university, college of education, or art college (e.g., German Diploma ("Diplom"), state examination, "Magister") c) a continuing degree programme building on a basic studies degree programme at a university, college of education, or another university with the right to award doctorates For especially talented students, it is possible to offer a conditional admission to a doctorate after a successfully completed Bachelor's programme. The outstanding talent can be proven by a Bachelor's programme that was concluded with an average mark of 1.5 or better and a short letter of recommendation from an external subject colleague.
