Ecological Determinants of Health in Society

    About

The relationship between human health and environment is a complex, developing field. While the study of health often falls within the health sciences, the social sciences also play an important role in the design, implementation, and monitoring of interventions within societies.

Demographic patterns and urbanization, economic forces, ethics, indigenous knowledge, and an understanding of how social change is put into action are all critical if we are to be successful in our efforts to assure health of individuals and societies in the future.

Students in the BA Faculty Program in Environment have the option to pursue the Ecological Determinants of Health in Society Domain, which explores how the environment affects human health and health policy. This Domain prepares students to contribute to the solution of problems of nutrition and infection by tying the relevant natural sciences to the social sciences.
