    About

Westminster is one of the very few colleges of its size offering a four-year engineering-related degree. The Engineering Physics major provides students with a choice of several materials science and engineering courses, a solid foundation in core physics, and supporting courses in computer science, mathematics and chemistry. Specific tracks exist for students interested in mechanical or electrical engineering. This is an excellent stand-alone degree, but would also be excellent preparation for students planning to obtain a one-and-a-half or two year Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree from an accredited engineering school within a larger university. Such a pairing would effectively form a "4-2"‌ option resulting in a B.S. and an M.Eng. in five-and-a-half or six years. Westminster has also partnered with Case Western Reserve University to offer a 3-2 Dual Degree program in Engineering. In the 3-2 program, students spend three years at Westminster and two years at the Case School of Engineering. In the end, students earn two bachelor's degrees in five years: a B.S. in engineering physics from Westminster and a B.S. in Engineering from Case Western Reserve. The advantage of attending Westminster first are the small class sizes, ready access to faculty, and close collaboration with faculty typically not available to undergraduate students at larger universities. Engineering Physics is a rigorous major. From the first day of freshman year and throughout the curriculum, students are taught to solve problems using programming and visualization software and to apply fundamental principles rather than secondary formulas. Students are required to conduct research with faculty in areas such as materials science, dynamics, and electronics. Students make use of our scanning tunneling microscope, GPU computer cluster, electronics lab, advanced physics lab, general physics lab, machine shop, and other resources. Weekly departmental lunch talks help build community, give students the chance to develop presentation skills needed for scientific careers, and keep everyone up-to-date on the latest physics and engineering research. Nearly all of our graduates are employed in engineering or physics-related fields or are conducting graduate study.

    Entry Requirements

Students seeking admission to Westminster College who are citizens of a country other than the United States will be considered international students and will, therefore, be subject to specifc admission requirements not applicable to naturalized citizens of the United States. This form should be completed and returned with the student’s academic record indicating completion of at least elementary/secondary school program or equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma. The student’s level of academic achievement should meet or exceed a grade point average of 3.000 (B) on a 4.000 scale. 2019-2020 Undergraduate Catalog The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all international applicants. The TOEFL score required for admission is 550 or above (paper-based), 213 or above (computer-based) or 80 or above (Internet-based). International stu- dents may submit the SAT as a substitute for the TOEFL. Students may also submit the IELTS score of 6 for admission. Westminster seeks to enroll academically qualifed international students from a variety of countries. All incoming international students must be prepared to meet the full cost of attendance—tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, and personal expenses for the calendar year—from personal or family resources, along with any Westminster scholarship money received. This documentation must be submitted to the College in the form of a certifed letter from the family bank, sponsor, government, etc. In addition, international students must purchase health insurance from the College. The I-20, or student visa, required for entry into the United States as an inter- national student will be issued by the Offce of Admissions after the applicant has been granted admission, has paid the $200 matriculation fee, and has submitted a certifed document proving adequate fnancial resources.
