    About

    Why choose this program?

Dalhousie’s two-year Environmental Studies (MES) program will give you the opportunity to create and share knowledge to generate positive change in the world.

You’ll choose a pressing issue related to resources, environment, or human wellbeing and the environment, and focus research and a thesis around your discoveries. The program’s balance of courses and peer interaction allows you to explore a broad range of issues.

Our School is one of the original and leading institutions in environmental management and capacity building in Canada and abroad. At our core is an interdisciplinary teaching and applied research program emphasizing rigorous inquiry and ethical practice as the foundation of responsible environmental and resource management. Efforts are devoted to addressing causes rather than symptoms and learning to anticipate and adapt to change.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Academic record

As established by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the entrance requirement is an Honours Bachelor Degree or the equivalent of honours with at least a B average (3.0 GPA) from a university recognized by the Senate of Dalhousie University. A four-year Baccalaureate degree may be considered as the equivalent of honours if there is significant evidence of independent research capacity. Students enrolled in the program come from a wide range of disciplines. Admission to the School is competitive and an academic level of a high B+ (3.3 GPA) or better is generally held by successful applicants.

    English language proficiency

Proof of competence in English: Students must provide satisfactory results from a standard language test, such as TOEFL (minimum score of 100 for the internet-based test); or IELTS (7.5 minimum score). Waiver of this regulation in exceptional cases may be considered only after evaluation of the application is complete. For more information, see the Faculty of Graduate Studies admissions requirements.
