The Expanded Media MA programme (the former Leadership in the Creative Industries MA programme) is dedicated to future/innovative media concepts and media formats.
The focus of media consumption is the experience (expanded experience). The increasing convergence of media with regard to media strategies, technology and aesthetics leads to an intensive examination of the audience experience and story worlds as well as real and virtual experience spaces.
In three major areas of study, Expanded Storyworlds, Expanded Sound & Music and Expanded Realities, students are given the opportunity to deepen three key strategies responding to the users' need for an "Expanded Experience".
In the Expanded Media Master's programme, students shape the future of these innovative media concepts in real and virtual scenarios. They conceptualise, design and produce new worlds and applications based on an audience experience. They master the conceptual, design and technological aspects of storyworlds, sound and music productions as well as mixed reality. They also develop a sensitivity to the cultural, ethical and social dimensions of these innovative media.
What will be the media of the future? Which new media developments will transform the spheres of entertainment, gaming, learning, and culture? How will the variety of media platforms (i.e., the Internet, television, mobile, social media, and experiences in real and virtual spaces) merge and develop together? How will new narrative formats create new forms of play or learning within the fields of film, television, radio, games, or the World Wide Web?
The three-semester / four-semester Expanded Media MA programme aims to develop conceptual competencies and strategic skills. Expanded Media replaces the former MA Programme Leadership in the Creative Industries.
The Expanded Media programme is taught in English.
