    About

A graduate degree in Elementary & Middle School education will help you to become a more creative and effective teacher or educational administrator. In this program, you will focus on curriculum and teaching, discovering how theory affects and informs educational practice. Students can complete an MA or an MEd in Elementary and Middle School Education.

What you will study in Elementary & Middle School Education

Our Masterâs programs in Elementary & Middle School Education focus on curriculum in order to help you to become a more effective teacher. You will study the theories that support teaching practices in elementary, middle, and junior high schools focusing on one or more subject areas central to the elementary and middle school curriculum: science, social studies, mathematics, language arts, or French.

    Complete Your Degree Online

At the Mount, we are committed to providing our students with flexible and accessible learning options. We understand that you may be working, studying full-time, or balancing the demands of your family, your career, and your education, and weâre ready to help you succeed. Our Grad Studies in Elementary and Middle School Education can be done completely online and is available as a part-time program that can be done in as little as 2 years. Students have up to 5 years to complete their degree.

    Your Career

Our Masterâs programs will help you to become a more effective classroom teacher, or to develop the skills that you need to become an effective educational administrator. Graduates of our programs are working as classroom and community teachers, principals, vice-principals and school board administrators, as consultants and curriculum developers, and as scholars, researchers, and university and college instructors.

    Admission Requirements

To be admitted to a Master of Education degree program, the student must ordinarily have:

    1.   a bachelor’s degree and a Bachelor of Education or equivalent, and

    2.   at least one year of successful teaching experience, normally at the elementary or middle school level.

Only students who have shown the potential to perform well in graduate studies, normally a minimum average of B (GPA 3.0) and positive letters of recommendation) will be considered for admission.

Admission is on a competitive basis. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. At present, a limited number of students on a part-time basis are admitted every year. Students who wish to study full-time should contact the program head.

    English Program Requirements

If an applicant’s first language is not English, official reports with acceptable scores from one of the following tests must be submitted:

    • the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test
    • the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    • the CanTEST
    • the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)

The following test scores indicate the English language requirements for international student admission to full-time studies and the language bridging programs at MSVU:
