Film and Media Studies

Film and Media Studies blends coursework in the theory, history, and criticism of film, television, and new media with instruction in both screenwriting and production in film, video, animation, and gaming. That combination of analysis and creativity prepares students to apply diverse modes of thought as they seek deeper inquiry in a medium of their choice.

The department of Film and Media Studies at Dartmouth empowers students to advance their understanding of the discipline by taking at least one course with a production component. Students are encouraged to both shape their emphasis of study and increase their breadth of understanding by taking at least one additional course relevant to their emphasis outside the department. Students may modify Film and Media Studies with another related discipline, and Film and Media Studies can be either the major or the minor in a modified major.

  The fee associated with submitting an application for admission to Dartmouth. The first-year application fee is $80. The transfer application fee is $90.

  If paying the application fee would cause unusual financial hardship for you or your family, you may be eligible for a waiver. Requesting a fee waiver will not disadvantage your candidacy in any way.

  The writing supplement includes questions specific to Dartmouth that help the Admissions Committee gain a better sense of how Dartmouth and you might be a good "fit" for each other.

• Secondary School Report Secondary School Report

  The Secondary School Report is a form completed by the applicant's school counselor that provides Dartmouth with an overview of the applicant's academic record.

  A written statement, completed by the applicant's school counselor, that addresses the applicant's academic performance, extracurricular engagements, and personal character.

• Two Teacher Evaluations Teacher Evaluation

  A written statement, completed by an instructor from an academic course, that addresses the applicant's academic performance, engagement with subject matter and classmates, and personal character.

• SAT SAT

  Published by the College Board, the SAT is a college admissions test which includes questions addressing three broad areas of knowledge: reading, writing, and mathematics.

  The ACT is a college admissions test which includes questions addressing five broad areas of knowledge: English, mathematics, reading, science, and writing.
