    About

    Get a practical, inspirational and gratifying introduction to filmmaking and make with your own film in just four weeks!
     
    Ideal for people new to filmmaking, this intensive short course offers students a broad and invaluable grounding in the basic filmmaking principles. Over four weeks you will learn a range of industry relevant skills from working film and TV professionals and get the opportunity to take a project from concept to script to screen.
     
    Working in small groups, you will produce a number of non-sync visual narrative short films, shooting exclusively on professional high end digital cameras such as Arri Alexa, Alexa Mini or Amira. Collaborating with fellow students, actors and tutors builds confidence while concurrently offering networking opportunities and access to industry training on productions within LFA.
     
    Our knowledgeable tutors are here to help, advise, support and encourage you throughout your time a London Film Academy, equipping students with the skills required to gain successful entry-level jobs in the film and TV industry.
     
    Filmmaking Certificate students are introduced to essential filmmaking disciplines including:

    • Directing
    • Producing
    • Casting and Auditioning
    • Screenwriting
    • Cinematography
    • Editing (Adobe Premiere)

    Practical exercises will demonstrate:

    • Key lighting techniques
    • Directing professional actors
    • Handling high end digital cameras such as Arri Alexa, Alexa Mini or Amira
    • Understanding production organisation 

    Your finished films are showcased in the LFA cinema and you will receive a certificate of completion and a YouTube showreel link after you have graduated.
     
    Course Goals

    • Experience of a variety of on-set roles on student films under tutor supervision
    • Understand the entire filmmaking process by working collaboratively to make a film using digital equipment.

    4 weeks, 20 consecutive weekdays
    Hours: 10:00 – 17:00 (plus additional hours incl. evenings and weekends)

    This course takes place in person at LFA, 52a Walham Grove, London SW6



    Will I get to direct my own film? 

    You will pitch a storyboard, and from selected pitches, four directors, DOPs, and producers/editors will be chosen. You may direct someone else's script, but not your own. 

    Will I get to write my own script? 

    You will pitch a storyboard, and from selected pitches, four scripts will be chosen. You can write a script, but if selected, you won’t direct it. 

    Will I receive a certificate after the course? 

    Yes, upon completing all modules and workshops, and attending graduation, you’ll receive a digital PDF certificate. 

    How do I join the LFA Filmmakers Club and job board? 

    You'll gain access to the Filmmakers Club and job board during the course, after receiving your LFA email address. 

    Should I book the course now, or can I wait for accommodation details? 

    We recommend booking immediately, as spots fill quickly. Once fees are paid, you’ll receive a welcome letter, a digital course handbook, and materials one week before the course starts.

    Step 2: Course Fees
    Your letter of acceptance, which you need in order to apply for your student visitor visa, can only be issued once you have met all of the admissions criteria for the course you are applying for and we have received your full course fees.

    Step 3: Acceptance
    Once we’ve received your full course fees, we can issue you with a letter of acceptance, which you can use to apply for your student visitor visa. In order to issue your letter of acceptance we will require:

    1.  A scanned copy or high quality photograph of your passport
    2. Your passport number
    3. Your name as it appears on your passport
    4. Your nationality
    5. Your home address
    6. The address where you will be staying whilst studying in the UK
