About this Course: This stimulating, hands-on course comprises practical workshops, lectures and gallery visits. The programme supports the development of your studio practice within fine art, craft, ceramics or textiles with the option to specialise or work across disciplines. Emphasis is placed upon creative experimentation with a variety of media and the development of individual ideas and approaches. You will continually develop your skills by tackling challenging project briefs, often in collaboration with external agencies. You will research opportunities within the creative industries and develop a sound understanding of practice within the various disciplines. Your first year aims to develop your creative skills in a range of 2D and 3D art forms with a focus on fine art, craft, ceramics and textiles. You will be introduced to art and design software and develop your digital creative skills. Critical and contextual studies will encourage you to engage with new ideas, theories and contemporary debate. In your final two years will allow you to develop your area of specialist practice that may explore an area of the visual arts in depth or cross boundaries between disciplines. You will engage in competitions and live briefs set by clients from the industry where you will gain valuable experience in real world projects. At Rotherham College we provide smaller study groups with training from industry professionals in industry settings.
