Career
Pursuant to Bremen regulations concerning legal training (BremJAPG), students receive an education which qualifies them to take up legal careers in an increasingly integrated European Union and in a constantly changing society: they learn how to fulfil the requirements of the constitution of a democratic welfare state determined by the rule of law. Based on an appropriate curriculum, studies encompass a critical perusal of the academic methods, knowledge and learning capacity necessary for fulfilling tasks in the practice fields of jurisdiction, legal administration and legal consultation. The contents and methods contained in the programme of studies are designed to overome any separation between theory and practice. This is achieved especially by means of providing a socio-scientific foundation and approach, as well as by taking into consideration the requirements of occupational practice.
Together, the university course, the subsequent two-year legal internship and the second state law examination qualify students for the German magistracy (Befähigung zum Richteramt). Graduates can then choose between legal careers at the bar, the judiciary and the administration, as well as in private companies.
