    Course overview

    This course is designed to cover the gap between fundamental engineering and practical engineering within the automotive industry. You will develop your knowledge and awareness of cutting-edge developments and learn the essential skills to meet the demands of the contemporary electrified automotive industry.

    You will have a complete understanding of hybrid and electric powertrains, connected vehicles and autonomous driving, design of electric drives, low-carbon engines and fuels, and multiphysics modelling of automotive systems using advanced computational tools.

    You'll engage with a dynamic curriculum that integrates the latest advancements in autonomous vehicles with critical industry knowledge and project management skills. This innovative approach ensures that you're not just learning theory but also gain practical skills throughout the learning process.

    We are looking for student who are from an engineering background and a committed, self-driven learner. We want you to be willing to explore and acquire new knowledge in engineering whilst valuing strong teamwork and creativity to embark on a journey into the realm of modern automotive industry.

    What skills we teach
    By offering a well-rounded blend of foundational and technical expertise coupled with hands-on experience, you will gain the essential management and teamwork skills needed to address the dynamic challenges in the rapidly changing automotive industry effectively. You'll refine your problem-solving abilities, and we'll promote multidisciplinary thinking through the exploration of various software, including MATLAB. Additionally, you'll develop your communication skills through opportunities to participate in both national and international conferences.

    Professional Practice Year
    If you meet satisfactory academic performance and have secured a suitable professional experience, you will have the option to be transferred onto our MSc Future Vehicle Technologies Practice programme. Taking the Professional Practice route allows you to extend the duration of your Masters to 22 months and gain valuable working experience to support your career aspirations. The placement commences after the completion of your MSc dissertation and can be paid work. study abroad exchanges or unpaid research projects or even a mix of these options. You will return to Aston the following May for an intensive period on campus to draw all your learning together and finalise the assessments.

    This course has been enabling great number of students to obtain jobs in top tier automotive companies like Jaguar Land Rover and Mercedes and other emerging companies partners with well known car manufacturer towards their electric and hybrid powertrain.

    Entry Requirements

    You can apply for year 1 of a Bachelors degree with a two-year diploma/certificate. We normally look for average GPA of 3.0/5.0 as a minimum.

    Some degree programmes, such as engineering, sciences and languages, require specific subject backgrounds.
