    About

    In this course, we will take a look into the turbulent past of the city of Berlin. You will learn how migration has had a lasting effect on the development of the German capital. In addition, you will experience the diverse cultural influences first-hand through excursions in the neighbourhoods of Berlin. You will hear stories from and about Berliners and will find out the peculiarities of their city. Furthermore, you will go to original locations to discover what the living situation was like more than a hundred years ago and get an idea of what it was like to live in Berlin around 1900. You will continue to learn about everyday life in the former GDR. Finally, you will gain insight into the work of the world-famous German international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle (DW). You will take a mandatory placement test on the first day. In the mornings: five credit hours of German classes per day (one credit hour = 45 minutes): a total of 75 credit hours In the afternoons: academic lessons two or three times per week: a total of 15 credit hours seminars, workshops, and trips related to the history, urban development, and culture of Berlin Components of the language lessons include: grammar conversation writing listening and reading comprehension pronunciation literature
