Admission requirementsTo be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.
Applicants must have the following:
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in any field of study AND Training and experience in their specialised area of 3D animation and/or visualisation production
Applicants without a tertiary qualification must have:
- Advanced levels of knowledge and skill through self-directed learning evidenced through a portfolio of work
- AND one of the following:
- Completed Australian diploma or advanced diploma, or overseas equivalent, in a related field of study
- A minimum of 1 year full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant professional experience
- Completion of at least one industry short course (e.g. UTS microcredential or equivalent) in a related field of study
- Be a minimum age of 21 years AND Have employment and/or project experience demonstrating maturity to undertake postgraduate studies
All applicants must also have:
- An interest in the course and demonstrated understanding of the opportunities present in Animation and Visualisation
Eligible applicants may also be required to attend an interview.
Applicants must nominate one specialisation in 3D animation or visualisation production at the time of application. The available specialisations are:
Art Department (concept art, environment art, storyboarding, character development), Pre-Visualisation/Layout Modelling, Rigging, Animation, Visual Effects, Surfacing/Texturing, Production Management, Technical Direction
Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application
- Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
- A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
- A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
- A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
- An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
- A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)
- Personal statement: (300 words) outlining reasons for studying the Graduate Certificate of Animation and Visualisation at UTS
- Portfolio: (max. 10 pages, PDF format) demonstrating skill in the applicant’s nominated specialisation:
- Applicants for digital artist specialisations: include a link to the applicant’s showreel (maximum video duration 2mins) on Vimeo, YouTube or a QuickTime file with clear captions of what the applicant’s role was in each sequence presented
- Applicants for technical direction specialisation (without a showreel): provide documented experience in coding/programming for digital production or visualisation and include links to coding projects on sites such as GitHub
- Applicants for production management specialisation (without a showreel): provide documented project coordination and/or event management experience
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a score of 6.5 in listening, speaking and reading, and a score of 6.0 in writing; or TOEFL: iBT: 79-93 overall with a speaking score of 20-22, a listening score of 20-23, a reading score of 19-23 and a writing score of 21; or PTE: 58-64 overall with a score of 58 in listening, speaking and reading, and a score of 50 in writing; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 overall with a score of 176 in listening, speaking and reading, and a score of 169 in writing.

International studentsVisa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
