    About

    This course provides an opportunity for registered pharmacists, particularly those from rural and remote areas, to develop clinical pharmacy skills and qualifications in clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice research by offering a flexible education program delivered online.

    The course will provide a formal training program for pharmacists to provide clinical services. Online delivery will enable access by pharmacists from overseas, as well as from rural and remote areas of Australia. The course will support pharmacists in becoming accredited to conduct medication reviews, and enhance their role as a member of the health care team. It will develop their ability to communicate effectively with other health professionals and patients. The course also aims to provide a pathway towards a Research Higher Degree.

    Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Dementia are eligible to continue their studies into the Graduate Diploma of Dementia or Master of Dementia with all four units, or 50 credit points, of advanced standing.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects, and meet English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

    English Language Requirements

    For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

    Course Specific Requirements

    To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

    • An AQF Bachelor level degree in Pharmacy from UTAS or another university or tertiary institution that is deemed equivalent.

    PLUS

    • Evidence of current AHPRA registration under the General Registration Type for the profession of Pharmacist, without conditions or notations is required, or equivalent evidence of registration in another country.
    • Appropriate post‐registration work experience of at least 1 year will also be normally considered as a requirement for acceptance into this program.

    • Employment details or a personal statement, or a CV or Resume which indicates appropriate post‐registration work experience of at least 1 year.

    English Program Requirements

    • All methods of meeting University of Tasmania English language requirements have a validity period of 2 years unless involving a country specific qualification as listed below.
    • Each course offered by the University of Tasmania has a minimum English language requirement for entry as listed below. Applicants must also meet the academic entry requirements for each course.
    • Applicants who qualify from a University of Tasmania program, and intend to gain professional registration to become a practitioner in Australia, may need to meet the relevant Professional Accrediting Agency's English language registration standard.
    • In exceptional circumstances or cases not covered by the categories outlined below, multiple forms of evidence may be considered on a case by case basis by the Executive Director, Student Operations in consultation with the Director, Academic Quality and Standards.
    • The University reserves the right to require that any applicant be required to undergo a test of English language.

    We anticipate career outcomes using wide and thorough knowledge of dementia and its effects, depending on the student's background. These may include:

    • Specialist roles and policy input for residential care or community facilities
    • Government or private roles dealing with policy and governance related to people with dementia and their carers
    • Roles that inform and design practice around care, with a strong person-centred focus
    • Augmented clinical skills for students with a health-professional background
