    Career outcomes

Digital technology is the engine of our modern world, powering industries such as healthcare, energy, banking and education. As our reliance on technology grows, so does our vulnerability to cyberattacks. The escalating threat of cybercrime underscores the urgent need for skilled cyber security professionals to safeguard our data.

There are many careers available in the virtual world. You could be a criminologist who specialises in cyber security, collaborating with law enforcement to analyse cybercrimes and develop prevention strategies. You might be a government intelligence officer, identifying potential threats and producing reports for decision-makers. Perhaps you’ll work as a cyber security defender, analysing attacks and documenting exploitations.

    You could also be a:

    • IT security specialist
    • Network security administrator
    • Incident response analyst
    • Vulnerability analyst
    • Risk analyst
    • Security consultant
    • Access management specialist.

    Industry trends

Cybercrimes are increasingly sophisticated, targeting critical infrastructure and exploiting technological and human vulnerabilities (World Economic Forum, 2025). Now more than ever, there is a critical need for cyber security professionals to protect individuals, organisations and governments from digital attacks.

The Australian Cyber Security Strategy is investing AUD$8.6 million to upskill Australia’s cyber workforce, with the aim of becoming a global leader in cyber security by 2030. This means more training opportunities and more jobs for those with cyber security skills.
