    About

    The Graduate Diploma in Research Methods is an intensive, one-year qualification designed to provide you with in-depth knowledge of research methods and your subject area as a pathway to a higher degree by research. It includes a substantial 18-unit research thesis/project (one semester/six months) and the research methodology topics that provide the comprehensive research knowledge for applicants who do not otherwise have the research experience required to apply for entry into a higher degree by research.

    This course can be pursued in any one of the six colleges of the University:

    • College of Business, Law and Government
    • College of Education, Psychology and Social Work
    • College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences - not offered in 2021
    • College of Medicine and Public Health
    • College of Nursing and Health Sciences - not offered in 2021
    • College of Science and Engineering - not offered in 2021.

    By studying within a specific college of the University, you are provided with expertise and support that is directly relevant to your chosen area of study.

    The Graduate Diploma in Research Methods consists of 36 units (equivalent to one year full-time). In addition to the 18-unit research thesis/project, the course also includes 18 units of topics such as field-specific research methods, writing a literature review and ethics proposal, and specialised subject areas. Graduates will gain the following: advanced knowledge of underlying academic principles and concepts in your area of study skills to independently plan research activities, manage your time, and present your research both orally and in writing the capacity and skills to undertake independent research the ability to critically evaluate and analyse complex issues and deploy evidence in support of a research output. A graduate certificate option is available as an exit award only.

    Entry Requirements

    The minimum entry requirement is comparable to an ATAR of 65, please note that some Flinders programs require higher than a comparable ATAR of 65. For further information please see the individual requirements for programs on the course listings.

    Prerequisite subject requirements

    Credit for previous university studies is granted at the discretion of the faculty that administers a chosen course. If you are seeking credit or exemption you will need to provide detailed subject outlines of studies completed.

    If you do not meet the necessary academic requirements you may enrol in a Foundation Program at Flinders International Study Centre (FISC).

     

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.

    Graduates can pursue careers in areas such as the government sector, private or corporate consulting sectors and research institutions.
