    About

The Health Professions Education online programme is for those interested in developing themselves in a health professions educational role, and offers the flexibility of learning to suit those currently employed.

This interactive programme will cultivate teaching practice which instils the principles and values of interprofessional education to support the development of the future and current healthcare workforce.

Hello, I'm Veronica O'Carroll and I'm the Director of the Health Professions Education Programme.

The Health Professions Education Programme is hosted by the School of Medicine and is designed for those interested in developing themselves in an educational role.

If you are involved in teaching health professionals in an academic or health or social care setting, then this programme offers an opportunity to develop your teaching skills.

The programme is delivered part-time and online. Throughout a semester, there are some scheduled online sessions with tutors and other learners, as well as some self-study, and this flexibility is ideal if you are juggling work and study.

During the regular online sessions, you will have the opportunity to learn collaboratively with other healthcare professionals through live interprofessional workshops.

Our innovative learning technology will enable easy access to timetable information and self-study learning resources, such as recorded lectures and podcasts. Our teaching team are from a variety of disciplines and healthcare backgrounds.

We have expertise in interprofessional education and in educating healthcare professionals within a range of community and acute care settings.

Hi, I'm Caroline, and I'm the Postgraduate Taught Coordinator and also the School's Wellbeing Officer.

Throughout your learning journey, there are a variety of support systems available to you. For example, within the school, you'll be allocated an Advisor of Studies who will be your point of contact throughout your time on the programme.

You'll have access to the School's learning technology team, who can provide support, advice or guidance with any IT issues.

You will also be able to access support through the teaching team, who can answer your administrative queries.

As the School's Wellbeing Officer, I can signpost you to all of the resources and support available to you within the school and wider university. If you have any questions for the team, we are always delighted to hear from you.

The wider University offers a dedicated postgraduate community which brings together the various avenues of support and resources available. For example, academic and study skills support are available to help you throughout your university studies, as well as providing opportunities to support professional and personal development.

Hi, I'm Evelyn, and I'm a lecturer in the School of Medicine and come from a nursing background. I am involved in delivering teaching within the Health Professions Education Programme.

When you apply, the University offers the opportunity to undertake a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, or an MSc in Health Professions Education.

At regular points in your studies you will have the opportunity to indicate if you wish to change your award. For example, if you apply to undertake a postgraduate certificate but decide that you would now also wish to continue with pursuing a postgraduate diploma, we can support this transition.

In addition, the University would also provide support if you wish to apply for Advanced Higher Education, Associate Fellowship, or Fellowship.

After completion of your studies, moving forward with your educational toolkit, there are a variety of future opportunities. These could include enhancing your healthcare educational role, undertaking further studies such as a PhD, pursuing an academic career in healthcare educational research, or thinking about influencing future educational policy and practice.

We look forward to hearing from you.
