    Hospitality Management Overview The VSU Hospitality Management Program is one of only 5 Historically Black College and University (HBCU) programs accredited by ACPHA. The objective of the program is to provide students leadership and managerial training with real world hospitality educational experiences. To complement the program’s competitive advantage, is its efforts to augment the hospitality industry’s access to a diverse talent acquisition pipeline. Mission of Department To educate and prepare students to be informed citizens and leaders who can assume productive roles within the global hospitality industry and the community. Objectives of Department The Hospitality Management program will emerge as a Center of Excellence in Hospitality, which embraces global concepts, leadership, team building behavior and concepts, which are current and relevant to the dynamics of the hospitality industry. The curriculum is designed to develop students’ focus on operations management at the property level and prepare them for careers leading to general and executive management. Department of Hospitality Management Program Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the program, students will be able to: PLO 1: Demonstrate effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills. PLO 2: Apply conceptual knowledge and operational skills in various types of hospitality organizations. PLO 3: Demonstrate interpersonal skills emphasizing leadership and professional behaviors. PLO 4: Practice basic principles of critical thinking and problem-solving skills when examining hospitality management issues. PLO 5: Explain global and cultural implications in hospitality and tourism management.     Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    • 3 units of mathematics that must include the full Algebra I curriculum and two additional courses at or above the level of Algebra I. It is strongly recommended that students complete Geometry, Algebra II, and a fourth higher level math course

    • 4 units of English

    • 2 units of Science (must include a laboratory science, i.e. Biology, Chemistry or Physics)

    • 2 units of Social Studies (History, Government, Civics, Geography)

    • 2 Units of Foreign Language recommended


    • a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 (grades 9-11).

    • evidence of strong performance in a challenging academic curriculum as demonstrated by a grade of B or better in core course.

    English Program Requirements

    All applicants for whom English is a foreign language must demonstrate proficiency in the English language through the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or international English Language Testing System (IELTS) if English is not the primary language spoken in the household. A minimum score of 61 preferred 71 (internet based), 173 preferred (197) (computer based), or 500 preferred (527) is required on the TOEFL. A minimum score of 5.5 on the IELTS for admission.
