    Overview The Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies at Texas Tech University explores the science of development across the life span with a focus on relationships – within the family and among peers and reaches beyond home, family and school to relationships and development throughout the lifespan. Biological, cognitive, social, emotional, environmental, and cultural aspects of development are studied in the context of their impact on growth, change, risk, resilience and well-being over time.Our human development and family studies program enables you to:Work directly with children and families from your freshman year onward. Texas Tech's on-site Child Development Research Center (CDRC)hosts 80 families with children aged 5 and younger. Texas Tech's Center for Early Head Start (EHS) serves 96 families with children aged 3 and younger. You can observe professional case workers and work with real clients in this state-of-the-art learning laboratory.Pre-Health Career Options. The Human Development and Family Studies program is great places for students interested in pre-professional health careers. A human development degree will be prepare students for careers supporting patients and their families through collaboration and interdisciplinary care. Students develop a dynamic understanding of individuals and families as well as professional communication skills.Gain internship experience and perform community service. Texas Tech has connections with all types of child and family service agencies, including schools, child care centers, adoption services, youth development programs, nonprofit agencies, family counseling practices, retirement communities, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, probation offices, and group or foster care centers. We will help you find an internship that is specifically tailored to your career goals, and provides you with meaningful, hands-on experience.Participate in research projects. Research opportunities are available through a number of institutes and research centers, including the CDRC, Center for Early Head Start, Institute for Developmental Science, and Texas Tech University Neuroimaging Institute.
