Integrated Medical Sciences and Clinical Practice

    About

About the course This extended major is only available to students who are offered an Assured Pathway to the Doctor of Medicine at time of admission. The Integrated Medical Sciences and Clinical Practice (IMSCP) major will encompass a wide range of disciplines within health and medical sciences. It will provide you with the background knowledge across all the biomedical scientific disciplines including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, haematology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and public health. Communication and research skills for the health professional will be presented throughout the major, and will include studies on aspects of Australian society and culture, including Aboriginal health and migrant and refugee health. Students on an Assured Pathway to the Doctor of Medicine have the option to study the new IMSCP extended major, or study any other major combination. However, they will only be eligible for credit towards the Doctor of Medicine (and a shorter six year pathway) if they successfully complete the IMSCP extended major. Students commencing at UWA from 2020 who undertake the Medical Sciences major will not be eligible for credit to the Doctor of Medicine. Students studying the IMSCP extended major are able to study 8 broadening and elective units in the first two years of their Bachelor degree. These units allow students to pursue their interests, in areas as diverse as music, languages, humanities, social sciences, business, environmental science, life and physical science or additional biomedical science units. Students are also eligible to undertake study abroad as part of their degree. For more information about the units in the IMSCP major please visit the UWA Handbooks page.
