This exciting degree programme is built around creative design for objects relating to the body. You will be encouraged to explore materials and challenge conventional notions of adornment. Through investigating ideas and processes, you’ll create considered and thoughtful designs that explore your own ideas about what contemporary jewellery is, or what it could be. This is a practical course, based in studios and our specialist workshops. You will learn traditional craft making skills that reflect the subject’s rich heritage, whilst embracing contemporary ideas, materials and technologies. You will be given the support and freedom to find your creative voice, and to express it through developing your own original design practice. On this small and friendly course, you’ll join a supportive environment where students share ideas and experiences and benefit from both individual tuition and group discussion. You will be taught by a team of lecturers, technical demonstrators and visiting professionals, each with their own creative practice and expertise in the field. You will acquire skills in designing and making by hand, by machine, and by using digital technologies. Industry Links You will be given opportunities to take part in real ‘live’ projects, as well as high-profile industry competitions. In the second year, you will be encouraged to make connections and gain valuable experience with makers and professionals on a local and international arena. In your final year, emphasis on your own practice will prepare you to begin professional life after college. The course has well-developed links with local and national industry professionals and gallery owners, including Hereford’s own vibrant jeweller’s group ‘Alloy’ – who also offer a graduate residency as an annual prize. After this Course You will be equipped to become an independent maker, or find employment in wider creative design, or through teaching, community arts, or postgraduate study. Highlights 1.
