About

A postgraduate alternative to the Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Bond’s globally recognised Juris Doctor program is specifically designed for aspiring lawyers who have previously completed an undergraduate bachelor’s degree. The program covers broadly the same areas of knowledge as the LLB but can be completed in six semesters rather than eight. With Bond’s accelerated three-semesters-per-year timetable the program can be completed in only two calendar years.

The Juris Doctor program satisfies the academic requirements for admission as a legal practitioner. Bond University’s Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) satisfies the practical training requirements for admission, which means your entire journey towards becoming a lawyer can be completed at Bond.

Bond’s Juris Doctor program presents the law in its global context and enables graduates to practise in multiple jurisdictions, subject to the specific admission requirements of the relevant jurisdiction.

English Program Requirements

English language proficiency requirements

Bond's programs are taught and assessed in English, so depending on your educational background and citizenship, you may be required to provide evidence that your English language ability meets our requirements. This may include submitting results from an approved English Language Test taken in the past two years - you can see the required results for the most common approved tests below. There are other ways to demonstrate English language proficiency and gain entry into this program, including demonstrating prior study in English, or other qualifications. If your qualification does not meet the English language requirements then you will need to provide an English proficiency test for admission.

Outcomes

Solicitor

Upon being admitted to the legal profession, you can work as a solicitor in a law firm, government organisation or community legal centre. You can choose to specialise in a particular area of practice or be a generalist.

Barrister

Upon being admitted to the legal profession and completing the bar practice course, you can work as a barrister. A barrister is an independent advocate and advisor and is often highly skilled in a particular area of law.

In-house counsel

Upon being admitted to the legal profession, you can work as an in-house counsel, where you will use your legal skills for the benefit of a particular organisation. You will often be practising in a range of areas of law particular to the needs of the organisation.

Non-legal profession

Graduating with a law degree doesn’t necessarily require you to be admitted as a legal practitioner – the program builds a wide array of legal skills that can be used cross-disciplinarily, including critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, conflict resolution and advocacy. You’ll be equipped to work in non-legal roles like management consulting, politics, investment banking and more.
