    Kinesiology and Health Science at York is one of the largest and most well-known programs in Canada and the world. The core Kinesiology and Health Science courses will expose you to leading-edge knowledge on how physical activity enhances health, prevents disease, and supports well-being from the cellular to the societal levels. Choose between a BA or BSc based on your academic interest, and enjoy a broad range of biophysical, behavioural, and sociocultural electives that all explore the body, health, and movement.

    Study topics such as fitness and health, exercise physiology, and biomechanics, while tailoring your degree through optional specialized certificates in areas such as Athletic Therapy, Aging, Fitness Assessment & Exercise Counselling, or Social Justice and Community Engagement: Sport, Physical Activity & Health.

    You will gain valuable, hands-on experience through labs, tutorials, and York’s unique Integrated Physical Activity for Life (IPAL) courses. You can also enhance your career readiness through our optional co-op program or undergraduate research opportunities.

    What You’ll Learn

    York’s Kinesiology and Health Science program offers one of the largest and most diverse selections of courses in Canada exploring topics such as anatomy, physiology, fitness assessment, research methods, sport psychology, human nutrition, exercise physiology, and more. Alongside a strong core of required courses, you will find over 100 electives to deepen your knowledge, expand your skills, and tailor your studies to your interests and career goals.

    Customize your degree by focusing on areas like Neuroscience and Motor Control, Physical Activity and Injury Prevention, or Fitness and Health. You can also add optional certificates to gain specialized skills and stand out in your field.

    You will develop in-demand and transferable skills such as statistical analysis, program evaluation, leadership development, critical thinking, and communication that are valuable for future post-graduate studies and many careers.

    As part of your degree, you will complete the IPAL program, a unique set of two year-long experiential courses. Through IPALs, you will gain hands-on experience and foundational knowledge in physical fitness, mental health, physical literacy, adapted and inclusive physical activity, leadership, and safety. You will engage in practice-based learning, build an ePortfolio, and develop into a confident ambassador of physical activity, ready to inspire healthy behaviours in yourself and those around you.

  • High School Diploma
    • Grade 12 graduation with a minimum overall average of "B" on Grade 11 and Grade 12 academic courses is required to be considered for most programs. Some programs require a higher average. Please review the requirements for your program below.
  • SAT score of 1170 (SAT submission code: 0894) or ACT score of 24 (ACT submission code: 5250).
    • SAT or ACT scores are not required for students studying in a recognized accredited US curriculum outside the United States, Puerto Rico or Guam.
    • SATs/ACTs are considered in combination with high school grades.
  • Transfer credit granted for final scores of 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams, depending on the program (maximum 30 credits). Please click here for details.

  • York University will deem the SAT/ACT as optional for students studying in a recognized accredited US curriculum high school in the United States, Puerto Rico or Guam. However, students who have completed a standardized test are encouraged to submit their test scores as it may support your application for competitive programs. SAT/ACT scores must be sent electronically from the College Board directly to York. Please browse the section below for pre-requisites and detailed admission requirements.

    Note: An SAT/ACT test will be required from students who are not enrolled in a recognized accredited US curriculum high school in the United States, Puerto Rico or Guam or have not studied in a formal academic high-school environment.
