This LLM Law with International Intellectual Property is an innovative, research-led and interdisciplinary course that gives you the chance to focus on the critical analysis of intellectual property law as an international phenomenon.
Why choose this course?
- Whether you are a law or non-law graduate, or are already employed as a legal practitioner, this LLM will help you gain theoretical and practical knowledge crucial for understanding the role of international intellectual property protection in the creation and operation of markets, and its political, social and cultural impact.
- This course is led by academic staff with extensive research expertise and publications in their field. They are part of a proud tradition of critical scholarship, addressing issues of law through power and inequality and being led by principles of social, economic, political, environmental and racial justice.
- At Birkbeck we understand that intellectual property is about more than legal doctrine and legal technique, so we have designed a truly interdisciplinary course. You will be able to choose modules focused on technology, political economy, management, innovation, entrepreneurship and the creative industries taught by international experts in legal studies, cultural studies, economics and critical management studies.
- The course is structured to enable you to balance study with work, family or other commitments.
What you will learn
Throughout the course, we draw from a range of primary and secondary sources to address contemporary debates in intellectual property law and policy, paying particular attention to the history, theory and political economy of intellectual property law.

- learn how to transfer your understanding of complex problems and regulatory responses to different contexts
