    Course Overview

    This course, which is equivalent to A-Levels, will give you the tools to turn your interest in working with animals into a fulfilling career. The course is based at our Lackham campus which boasts a new industry-leading Animal Resource Centre – an inspiring learning environment with modern, zoo-standard vivaria, aviaries and enclosures. Learning in this environment you'll build specialist technical and practical skills, as well developing a detailed understanding of the animal industry. You'll combine academic study with practical duties in the Animal Resource Centre, increasing your confidence and skill in animal handling and providing valuable experience when it comes to seeking employment. The Animal Resource Centre is LAIA and DWA compliant.

    What will I learn?

    You'll study a combination of core and optional units across the two-year course, giving you a solid grounding in key aspects of the animal industry, and allowing you to discover and follow your passions. You will deepen your knowledge of:
    > Animal behaviour
    > Communication
    > Feeding and nutrition
    > Genetics
    > Ecology and conservation
    > Biological systems of animals

    Modules such as breeding, husbandry, business management and retail will equip you with the industry knowledge to progress further in your career.

    > 4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C) including English, maths and science (or equivalent).
    > A positive and responsible attitude towards working with animals.
    > An interview, if required.

    1. Use your full name not a shortened version, i.e. 'Thomas' rather than 'Tom'
    2. If possible, do not use your school email. We will send you important emails in July and August about your course and how to enrol, and you may not be able to access them from your school email
    3. Provide your predicted grades – this enables the Admissions Team to assess your application to make sure you have applied for the correct level of course
    4. If you are under 18 provide us with a parent/guardian contact with telephone number and email
    5. Only apply for one course – if you wish to apply for a second one, please email [email protected] and we will add the course to your existing application
    6. If you have previously applied or studied at the College and are applying with a different name or address to the one we have our records from that time, please email [email protected] with the details so we can match up your old record to you current application
