About

The Master's degree programme "The Americas/Las AmÃ©ricas" at Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg is an interdisciplinary programme combining theory-based education with the practice-oriented application of methods for research in and between the fields of North American and Latin American Studies. The primary objective of the programme is to provide graduate students from a German or a foreign university with the fundamental basics in the comparative discipline of Inter-American Studies and with the instruments applicable for differentiated research in this area. In regional and interregional core units, students focus on the history, politics, societies and the diverse cultures and literatures of North America and Latin America, and learn to place them in a hemispheric and transnational context by drawing on approaches derived from various schools of contemporary critical thought. In language classes, students learn to speak and write academic English and Spanish.

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in modern languages (English or Spanish), American, Latin American, English, or Spanish studies overall grade of the prior degree minimum 2.5 (on a scale from 1 to 4 according to the German grading system); between 2.51 and 3.5: individual application interview
