    This program has a practical focus aimed at building your knowledge and skill set across a broad spectrum of writing, publishing and editing, including digital writing and publishing, fiction and non‐fiction writing, print production, advanced editing for books and magazines and writing for young adults.

    Who is it for?

    The Master of Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing is for those who currently work in the creative writing, editing and publishing industry, or have recently completed an undergraduate degree. This qualification is for you if you want to build your project management, research and critical thinking in writing, editing and publishing projects, or develop sound knowledge of the commercial impetus of the global publishing industry.

    On graduation from the Master of Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing, you will be ready for work in professional fields including:

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    1. In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed:

    • a four-year bachelor degree in a relevant discipline which includes a substantial research component equivalent to at least 25% of one year of full-time study and have achieved a minimum weighted average of (University of Melbourne) 75% or higher;

    or

    • a masters degree in a relevant discipline which includes a substantial research component equivalent to at least 25% of one year of full-time study and achieved a minimum weighted average of (University of Melbourne) 75% or higher.

    Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection.

    2. In selecting applicants, the selection committee will consider applicants’:

    • prior academic performance and, if relevant,
    • professional qualifications; and
    • performance at interview; and
    • understanding of the research question to be explored; and
    • motivation and capacity to complete the course in a timely manner; and
    • relevant prior research and/or professional experience; and
    • referee reports.

    3. The selection committee may seek further information to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Selection and Admission Policy.

    English Program Requirements

    IELTS: Score: 7.0, with written 7.0 and no band less than 6.0.

    TOEFL: Score: 94+, with writing 27; speaking 18; reading 13; listening 13.

    PEARSON: Score: 72+, with written communicative skill of 75 and no other communicative skill below 60.

    CAMBRIDGE: Score: 185+, with no less than 185 in writing and no less than 169 in each other skill.
